Romblon has declared a state of calamity as Governor Trina Firmalo-Fabic appealed to the national government for assistance following the widespread destruction caused by Severe Tropical Storm Opong.Among those destroyed were houses, schools, boats, and farmlands.“Ang kailangan namin ngayon of course  ay pagkain, basic needs ,yung sa mga construction materials para  sa mga bahay na  itatayo ulit  and even sa mga classrooms po  namin na nasira nananawagan din po kami sa DepEd na matulungan kami, yung sa sources of livelihood  marami po kami mga bangka at saka mga tanim na nasira, so kailangan po ng tulong ng ating farmers and fisherfolks,” Gov. Firmalo-Fabic told ABS-CBN News in a phone interview.According to the governor, around 14,138 houses were partially damaged while 1,786 were totally damaged, with total losses estimated at ₱220 million. Agricultural damages were valued at ₱60 million.Power supply also remains down in most parts of Romblon.The hardest-hit areas were towns in Sibuyan Island as well as the municipalities of San Agustin, San Andres, and Calatrava in Tablas Island.
