MANILA — The Commission on Elections on Wednesday said it will hold special elections in Antipolo’s 2nd District to fill the vacancy created by <a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/12/29/house-pays-tribute-to-late-rep-acop-2015">the passing of Rep. Romeo Acop</a>, who died last December.Comelec Chairman George Garcia said the target date for the elections is March 14, roughly two months from now. He said the Comelec will need around P98 million for the special elections, which will be done through manual voting.“Wala kaming pera para ipangontrata at wala tayong panahon para sa procurement. Sa isang halalan na ganito, lagi itong manual na halalan,” he said.Garcia said Comelec has already requested funding for the polls from the Office of the President’s contingency funds, as the commission only has around P11 million for special elections in this year’s national budget.
