Five dead bodies were found in the waters off Balut Island in Sarangani, Davao Occidental on Saturday morning, January 24, and are believed to be among those aboard the motorbanca MBCA Amejara, which capsized on January 18, authorities said.Office of Civil Defense Region XI Director Ednar Dayanghirang said fishermen discovered the bodies near an artificial reef.One person survived, while 15 others went missing after the motorbanca encountered strong winds and large waves while en route to Governor Generoso, Davao Oriental, for a fishing trip last January 18.The Philippine Coast Guard and the Philippine Navy continue to conduct search and rescue operations, deploying air and sea assets to locate the remaining missing individuals. Dayanghirang said authorities have not yet shifted to search-and-retrieval operations, as they remain hopeful of finding survivors.
