MANILA — The Police Regional Office 6 confirmed a resisting arrest incident after a 54-year-old male passenger was shot at the pre-departure area of Iloilo International Airport on Wednesday over supposedly refusing to surrender his bladed weapon and allegedly attempting to stab one of the police officers.In a release, the PRO6 said the man refused to undergo the required security inspection after a bladed weapon was detected by the X-ray machine inside his baggage.Authorities quickly responded to the report and repeatedly instructed the man to surrender his bladed weapon.Other passengers also noticed the escalating tension.The man ignored the police&#x27;s instructions and allegedly tried to stab one of the responding officers, but the latter evaded the attack and hit the suspect once on the shoulder after &quot;perceiving an imminent threat to life.&quot;The suspect was given medical assistance by the airport&#x27;s medical team, then was later transferred  to the Western Visayas Sanitarium Hospital in Brgy. Bolong, Sta. Barbara, Iloilo.Meanwhile, the involved officer was placed under restrictive custody and the PRO6 assured the public that a thorough investigation will be conducted.&quot;The PRO6 reiterates its commitment to maintaining public safety, upholding professionalism, and ensuring the lawful and responsible performance of police duties, particularly in sensitive and high-security areas such as airports,&quot; it said.The airport operations are now back to normal following the incident, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) said in a release.&quot;CAAP is coordinating closely with the relevant authorities and is awaiting the official incident report,&quot; the statement read.
