Handout/PCG</div>MANILA (UPDATED) -- The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) found the location of the sunken MV Trisha Kerstin 3 in the waters off Baluk-Baluk Island, Basilan on Tuesday.According to PCG Technical Diving Group Supervisor, Commander Cheska Jamorol PCG,  the vessel was found lying in an east-to-west orientation relative to the island.One cadaver was also recovered in the area, bringing the death toll to 43. The number of survivors remains at 316.MV Trisha Kerstin 3 sank off the coast of Basilan in the early hours of January 26. The passenger fleet of Aleson Shipping Lines, which owned the ferry, was eventually grounded in the wake of the incident.<div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/1/27/dotr-grounds-aleson-s-fleet-amid-full-blown-probe-into-basilan-ferry-sinking-1049">READ: DOTr grounds Aleson&#x27;s fleet amid &#x27;full-blown&#x27; investigation into Basilan ferry sinking</a></div>Divers are set to check the area again on Wednesday.Complementing the divers&#x27; statement are images captured by the side-scan Sound Navigation and Ranging (SONAR), which was deployed to Basilan Tuesday morning.According to the operator of the SONAR equipment, they are almost 100% certain that they found the ill-fated vessel.However, they have yet to get clearer images using the multi-beam echo sounder, according to Wilson Villanueva, director of EGS Asia Inc. and owner of the SONAR equipment.The images captured by the equipment showed a distinct shape of a vessel.The operation however is made difficult by strong winds and huge waves, especially after a low pressure area developed into Tropical Depression Basyang on Tuesday afternoon.<div> </div>
