Handout/Bayawan CPS</div>MANILA (UPDATED) -- Eight employees of the Bayawan City local government in Negros Oriental along with one intern were killed in a vehicular incident Wednesday morning. Negros Oriental police spokesperson PCapt. Stephen Polinar said the government workers, most of whom were from the city engineering office, were on board a dump truck carrying five containers of crude oil and several electrical equipment.They were supposed to bring the gasoline to bigger vehicles owned by the local government in the area.Police said the truck was traversing the national road in Barangay Kalamtukan, Bayawan City, coming from Barangay Manduao and heading back to Bayawan City proper when the accident occurred.<div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/regions/2026/2/4/buntis-at-1-taong-gulang-na-anak-patay-sa-banggaan-sa-alaminos-1035">Buntis at 1-taong-gulang na anak, patay sa banggaan sa Alaminos</a></div>&quot;Nahulog sila sa bangin. Timmar Alam. All nine occupants of the dump truck sustained multiple physical injuries and were rushed to Kalumboyan Hospital for medical treatment. However, police said all victims were pronounced dead on arrival at around 12:35 p.m.<div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/regions/2026/2/4/death-toll-from-basilan-ferry-sinking-hits-45-1457">Death toll from Basilan ferry sinking hits 45</a></div>Authorities said the victims were believed to be employees of the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) under the Bayawan City LGU and had earlier conducted work related to an agricultural or farming project in the area.&quot;Nag-ayos ata sila ng parang farm doon, &#x27;yung project ng farming. So, nung pabalik na sila, nag-overshoot,&quot; Alam said. Initial findings point to human error as the possible cause of the crash, although police said a full investigation is still ongoing.As of this writing, the dump truck remains at the bottom of the ravine due to the depth of the cliff and the difficult terrain, while clearing operations are being coordinated by local authorities.
