<p>MANILA — The government has extended P27 million worth of humanitarian assistance to families affected by Tropical Depression Basyang, the Department of Social Welfare and Development said Saturday.</p><p>DSWD spokesperson Irene Dumlao said the assistance was through family food packs, ready-to-eat food boxes and non-food items distributed at evacuation centers.</p><p>DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian has flown to Iligan City to identify and address the needs of the affected families.</p><p>Dumlao said Iligan City requested for augmentation support of 2,300 family food packs for their relief operation.</p><p>&quot;Nakapaghatid na rin po tayo ng tulong sa Misamis Occidental, Misamis Oriental, gayun din sa Agusan del Norte, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, at Dinagat Islands,&quot; Dumlao said.</p><p>She said 3.5 million family food packs had already been stored in warehouses in anticipation of the storm.</p><p>The DSWD earlier said around 43,000 individuals have sought for evacuation because of the weather disturbance.</p><p>&quot;Nakikita naman natin sa ating pag-iikot na maayos ang paghahanda, mga local government units, but we need to strengthen it further,&quot; Dumlao added.</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>MORE THAN 900 FAMILIES DISPLACED IN CEBU</strong></div><div><br/></div><p>In Cebu, more than 900 families were recorded to have been displaced by Basyang, according to Provincial Information Office data.</p><p>This translates to more than 3,062 individuals currently staying in schools and gyms serving as evacuation centers.</p><p>“I also talked to the (Department of Public Works and Highways) and deployed personnel to the south,” said Cebu Gov. Pam Baricuatro.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/2/6/some-141-000-people-affected-by-basyang-onslaught-in-visayas-mindanao-dswd-1508">Some 141,000 people affected by &#x27;Basyang&#x27; onslaught in Visayas, Mindanao — DSWD</a></div><p>As of Friday, a landslide was recorded in Barangay Prenza in Balamban town, alongside rising water levels in local rivers.</p><p>The river in Lusaran, Cebu City also overflowed anew.</p><p>In Caubian Island, Lapu-Lapu City, several motorbancas were damaged by huge waves. Fortunately, no one was reported hurt in the incidents.</p><p>The province also reported power outages and water supply interruptions in some areas.
