<p>(UPDATED) The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology on Saturday afternoon reported an ongoing pyroclastic density current (uson) on the slopes of Mayon Volcano in Albay province.</p><p>Phivolcs footage showed the lava flow collapse-fed pyroclastic density current at the southwestern slopes of Mayo at 05:38 p.m. </p><p>Social media posts also showed thick plumes of ash covering areas near the volcano.</p><p>The ash plume was clearly seen from the towns of Daraga, Camalig, and Guinobatan.</p><p>Ashfall is expected over the third district of Albay.</p><p>The Camalig local government advised residents to either remain inside their homes or wear a facemask when going out, because of the ash from the volcano.</p><p>Mayor Caloy Baldo said they are coordinating with Phivolcs regarding the sitiuation.</p><p>Phivolcs said Alert Level 3 remains in effect over the volcano and entry into the 6-km permanent danger zone is prohibited.</p><div><em>More details to follow.</em></div><div><em></em><strong>RELATED STORIES</strong></div><div><strong><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/regions/2026/1/6/phivolcs-to-raise-mayon-volcano-alert-level-3-1314">Phivolcs raises Mayon Volcano to alert level 3</a></strong></div><div><strong><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/1/7/authorities-warn-of-possible-lahar-flows-in-albay-amid-mayon-unrest-1115">Authorities warn of possible lahar flows in Albay amid Mayon unrest</a></strong><em></em><br/></div>
