<p>Cebu’s hosting of the <a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/business/2026/5/5/asean-2026-to-focus-on-energy-security-disaster-resilience-1549">48th ASEAN Summit and related meetings </a>has brought in more events and businesses to Lapu-Lapu City, its mayor said Wednesday. </p><p>Speaking to reporters, Mayor Cindi Chan said that they have received requests for reservations of venues, especially at the Mactan Expo, where the main meetings for the ASEAN will be held.</p><p>“There will be an ad congress by the end of May… We just did not accept any booking until the ASEAN is finished. Many want to hold events here,” said Mayor Chan in Cebuano.</p><p>Chan noted that restaurants are “cropping up” in their city, including international chains and local brands.</p><p>“Our food festival, palaging puno. It makes me happy that small businesses are thriving,” added Chan.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/business/2026/5/5/asean-2026-to-focus-on-energy-security-disaster-resilience-1549">ASEAN 2026 to focus on energy security, disaster resilience </a></div><div><br/></div><div><strong>DECORS DESTROYED?</strong></div><div><br/></div><p>Meanwhile, the local government of Lapu-Lapu said it was looking for the individuals who defaced the decorations of Barangay Ibo and Barangay Pajo.</p><p>These were part of a contest organized by the National Commission for the Culture and the Arts, which featured a balangay and a flag of an ASEAN member-state.</p><p>“It was to show how good with are with the arts but I don’t know why you destroyed it,” said Congressman Ahong Chan.</p><p>A reward will be given to those who provide information on vandalism. </p><div><br/></div><div><strong>ARRIVALS START </strong></div><div><br/></div><p>Heads of states and officials from ASEAN member countries have started arriving on Wednesday.</p><p>U Hau Khan Sum, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Myanmar, arrived on Wednesday morning.</p><p>On Wednesday evening, ASEAN Secretary-General Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei Darussalam, and President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. are also set to arrive in Cebu.  </p><p>Passengers at the Mactan-Cebu International Airport are advised to plan ahead to avoid delays due to these arrivals. </p><div><span class="fr-video fr-deletable fr-fvc fr-dvb fr-draggable" contenteditable="false" draggable="true"><iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/yhFviU3Pz8E?&amp;wmode=opaque&amp;rel=0" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen="" class="fr-draggable"></iframe></span><br/></div>
