<p>MANILA — Macalañang has declared special non-working days for Cebu City and Mandaue City due to the hosting of the 48th ASEAN Summit.</p><p>In Proclamation 1239, it said that both cities were “likewise identified areas or transport routes for ASEAN delegates” heading to meetings in Lapu-Lapu City.</p><p>The holidays will help “alleviate traffic and to allow the host country to secure the safety of participants in the said event”, added the proclamation signed by Acting Executive Secretary Ralph Recto.</p><p>The Cebu regional police confirmed that it made the recommendation after a series of assessments and meetings.</p><p>“Para maging convenient ang hosting of the ASEAN leaders sa dalawang araw na darating,” said Police Col. Kimberly Molitas, spokesperson ASEAN-related concerns for Police Regional Office 7. </p><p>“These are based on observations and lessons learned, recommendations of all the agencies combined,”  Molitas added.</p><div><span class="fr-video fr-deletable fr-fvc fr-dvb fr-draggable" contenteditable="false" draggable="true"><iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/yhFviU3Pz8E?&amp;pp=0gcJCd4KAYcqIYzv&amp;wmode=opaque&amp;rel=0" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen="" class="fr-draggable"></iframe></span><br/></div><div><br/></div><div><strong>LOCKDOWNS</strong></div><div><strong> </strong></div><p>Arrivals have started earlier Wednesday and will continue until Thursday.</p><p>The ASEAN Leaders Summit will open on May 8, Friday.</p><p>The Police Regional Office 7 said two lockdowns were scheduled for Wednesday from 6:45 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. from the Mactan-Cebu International Airport to Shangri-La Hotel.</p><p>“During these periods, temporary road closures and movement restrictions will be enforced along the identified routes to ensure the safe and secure passage of official delegations,” the Central Visayas Police  said in a statement.</p><p>Motorists and the general public are advised to plan their travel accordingly and expect possible traffic delays in affected areas.</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>PREPARATIONS</strong></div><div><br/></div><p>Molitas noted that preparations for the 48th ASEAN Summit cover not just Cebu but the entire Central Visayas.</p><p>“Because we also expect that our very beautiful tourist destination will be visited by our contingents and even our heads of state,” said Molitas.</p><p>“We are ready to accommodate any request from any delegate should they want to visit any area or destination… It is [for] economic growth, it is also a gain sa ating business establishments,” added Molitas.</p><p>The tourist police will also make rounds to destinations along with the Office of Civil Defense.</p>
