Jam Sta Rosa, AFP </span></span></span></div><div><br/></div><p>MANILA — The powerful<a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/regions/2026/6/9/what-we-know-about-the-magnitude-7-8-mindanao-earthquake-2032"> earthquake that jolted Mindanao </a>this week has spawned at least 2,980 aftershocks as of Thursday morning, as the death toll hit 47, authorities said. </p><p>The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said 783 aftershocks were plotted, while 61 were strong enough to be felt. </p><p>The strongest aftershock so far was at magnitude 6.4, Phivolcs said. </p><p>Phivolcs earlier said the aftershocks <a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/regions/2026/6/8/phivolcs-aftershocks-of-sarangani-quake-may-last-a-month-1530">could last for weeks.</a></p><p>Monday’s 7.8-magnitude tremor just off the coast of Mindanao brought down buildings, triggered landslides and set off tsunami warnings. </p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/regions/2026/6/9/what-we-know-about-the-magnitude-7-8-mindanao-earthquake-2032">What we know about the magnitude 7.8 Mindanao earthquake </a></div><p>The Office of Civil Defense raised the death toll to 47 on Thursday. </p><p>It said 31 people remained missing, while 688 were injured. </p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/business/2026/6/10/st-peter-offers-free-funeral-services-for-mindanao-quake-victims-1449">St. Peter offers free funeral services for Mindanao quake victims</a></div><p>Civil Defense Assistant Secretary Bernardo Rafaelito Alejandro IV told a briefing that 75,324 families had been affected in Regions 9, 11, 12, and BARMM. He added that 3,515 families are staying  in evacuation centers. </p><p>Damage to infrastructure has reached P666.5 million Davao Region and Soccsksargen. </p><p>Power outages and intermittent communication were reported in 16 cities and towns in the two regions. </p><p>But several roads have been cleared, giving rescue and relief workers access to affected areas.
