<p>Low water levels at the Philippines’ Angat Dam on Wednesday (July 15) have made livelihoods increasingly difficult for communities living around the reservoir, residents told Reuters. </p><p>Most of those living in the area belong to the indigenous Dumagat community, and for fishermen such as Jojo Santos, the prolonged dry conditions have disrupted their livelihood.</p><p>Santos said the reservoir&#x27;s water level drops every year, but this year&#x27;s decline was much more severe. He said that despite the decline, water levels would normally be high enough by this time of year, improving water clarity and fishing conditions. </p><p>Instead, the water remained murky because of its proximity to the lake bed, making it harder to catch fish.</p><div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/7/13/angat-dam-water-level-slightly-up-but-still-below-critical-level-nwrb-1610">READ: Angat Dam water level slightly up after &#x27;Inday&#x27;, habagat rains but still below critical level – NWRB</a></div><p>The water level stood at around 155 meters above sea level on Wednesday, dipping below the 160-metre critical threshold and well below its normal operating level, according to The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).</p><p>PAGASA said a weak to moderate El Niño continues to persist in the tropical Pacific and is forecast to intensify into a very strong event by the last quarter of 2026. PAGASA said El Niño increases the likelihood of below-normal rainfall, which could lead to dry spells and drought in parts of the country.</p><p>Authorities are continuing to monitor water levels at Angat Dam, which supplies more than 90% of Metro Manila&#x27;s domestic water needs and also provides irrigation water and hydropower.</p><div><strong>(Camera, Editing, Writing, Production: Adrian Portugal)</strong></div>
