CABUYAO CITY, Laguna — A 51-year-old woman was arrested after allegedly abducting a seven-month-old baby boy in Cabuyao City, Laguna. The infant was safely recovered by authorities less than 24 hours later in Montalban, Rizal.Police said the incident began on Monday morning when the suspect invited her former neighbor, Joan Fe Gombio, and her baby to have lunch at a fast-food restaurant inside a shopping mall.While they were eating, the suspect allegedly offered to carry the crying infant so Gombio could finish her meal.“Noon tapos na ako kumain tulog na po yung anak ko kaya hindi ko na naisipan kunin ang anak ko para hindi po maistorbo ang tulog,” Gombio said.After lunch, the suspect allegedly suggested buying diapers for the infant. She then claimed she was too tired to walk and asked Gombio to go alone to the supermarket while she stayed behind carrying the sleeping baby.“Sabi niya bilhan muna kaya natin ng diaper yung anak mo. Noong una tinanggihan ko kasi sabi ko nakakahiya, nilibre na nga po kami ng pagkain. Sabi niya sige na kunin mo na ito para hindi ka na pabalik-balik sa tindahan. Tinanggap ko na po,” Gombio recalled.When Gombio returned after purchasing the diapers, both the suspect and her baby had disappeared.The frantic mother immediately sought help from mall security guards, but they failed to locate the suspect or the infant.A review of the mall’s CCTV footage showed the woman carrying the baby out of the mall, crossing the street, and boarding a public jeepney.Patrolman Ray Christian Naval, investigator of the Cabuyao City Police Station, searched for the suspect’s relatives online and contacted one of her children, who confirmed that the baby was at their home in Barangay San Isidro, Montalban, Rizal.On Tuesday, police officers and social workers proceeded to Rodriguez, Rizal, where they safely recovered the infant and reunited him with his mother. The suspect was also taken into custody.Investigators believe the woman intended to keep the baby as her own.“Parang gusto niyang gawing anak, kung hindi napaaga ang responde ng Cabuyao police ay dadalhin niya sa Bataan ang bata,” he said.In an interview with ABS-CBN News, the suspect admitted that she had planned the abduction. She said she intended to present the baby to her live-in partner, who works in Tarlac, and claim that the child was theirs.The suspect said she suffered a miscarriage earlier this year and lost her unborn baby.She also apologized to the baby’s parents and pleaded for them to withdraw the complaint, insisting she never intended to sell the infant but wanted to raise him as her own.But Gombio said she remains determined to pursue the case.The suspect is now being held at the Cabuyao City Detention Facility and is facing charges of Other Forms of Kidnapping and Failure to Return a Minor.<div> </div><div>RELATED VIDEO:</div><div><iframe width="960" height="540" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/18t70rID6Vs?&amp;wmode=opaque&amp;rel=0" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen="" class="fr-draggable"></iframe></div>
