<p>CAVITE — Dasmariñas City Mayor Jenny Barzaga, an aspirant for the House seat of Cavite 4th District, will support proposals that prohibit political dynasties, her son Vice Mayor Third Barzaga said.</p><p>The younger Barzaga is currently the city’s acting mayor after his mother filed a certificate of candidacy (COC) for the House seat. </p><p>If she succeeds, she will replace her son, former Rep. Kiko Barzaga, who was expelled due to “disorderly” conduct.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/regions/2026/7/16/four-aspirants-file-cocs-for-cavite-4th-district-special-polls-1722">Four aspirants file COCs for Cavite 4th District special polls</a></div><p>On the sidelines of the coordination meeting of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) and the Dasmariñas City government on Thursday, the acting mayor was asked for a comment on criticisms of his family being a political dynasty.</p><p>“As per what I talked about with the mayor, personally, if there was an anti-dynasty bill, she would personally vote yes in favor for it,” the vice mayor said.</p><p>“We’ll just continue to do our best and — I don&#x27;t know how to answer it — We&#x27;re just going to do our best. I personally just want to run, if I was the only Barzaga running, then that&#x27;s that. If the mayor was the only Barzaga running, that&#x27;s also okay with our family,” he added.</p><p>Should her mother’s House bid prosper, the vice mayor said he is “excited” to succeed the mayoral post.</p><p>“There&#x27;s a lot of pressure and I&#x27;m very nervous, but at the same time, I&#x27;m very excited. There are some personal projects and programs that I want to do personally. I might have a different style for mayor, and there&#x27;s going to be a bit of a learning phase to it for sure,” Vice Mayor Barzaga said.</p><div> </div><script async="" src="https://platform.x.com/widgets.js" charSet="utf-8"></script><div><strong>SPECIAL POLL</strong></div><p> The Comelec will hold the special election for the Cavite 4th District representative on Aug. 29.</p><p>Aside from Mayor Barzaga, four others lodged their COCs namely Raul Rex Mangubat, Marvin Dupal-ag, Leysander Ordenes, and Jacinto Frani.</p><p>The election period will commence on July 30 and end on Sept. 30. During this period, guns will be banned in Dasmariñas City.</p><p>Meanwhile, the campaign period will be from July 30 to Aug. 27. Social services and public works will be prohibited during this period, but exemptions may be requested before the poll body.</p><p>“Bawal na bawal ang pamimigay ng ayuda, anuman pong klase… maliban na lamang sa tinatawag na burial assistance at saka ‘yung mga health assistance na binibigay ng ating pamahalaan, national man or local,” Comelec chair George Garcia said.</p><p>Citing the monitoring of the city election office, Garcia said none of the aspirants have campaigned prematurely and there are no complaints of vote buying.</p><p>Initially, the Comelec’s budget for the special election was P198 million, Garcia said. But it will be reduced after the local government of Dasmariñas City turned over P50 million of financial assistance.</p><p>“Kung tatanungin n’yo kung sa’n namin gagastusin, gagastusin po namin para sa mga guro. Sisiguraduhin namin na ‘yung mga guro natin, bagama’t kaunti at hindi sapat ‘yung budget, ay makatatanggap sila ng honoraria na katulad ng tinanggap nila noong 2025 national and local election nung Mayo 12,” the chairman said.</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>SCHEDULE</strong></div><div><br/></div><p>Dasmariñas City has 447,387 voters. They will cast their vote in 1,308 clustered precincts in 43 voting centers.</p><p>The special election will be manual voting, in which voters will write the name of the candidate on the ballot.</p><p>Senior citizens, pregnant, and persons with disability may avail of the early voting from 5 a.m. to 7 a.m. Regular voting hours are from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. </p><p>Garcia said the winning candidate may be proclaimed in the morning of Aug. 30.</p><p>To date, authorities have not recorded any threats or intense political rivalries for the coming election.</p>
