<p>MANILA — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. led the inauguration and turnover of the Ibato-Iraan Small Reservoir Irrigation Project in Barangay Sagpangan in Aborlan, Palawan on Thursday, July 23.</p><p>The facility is Palawan’s largest irrigation project and the first reservoir-type irrigation system in the island, according to the chief executive.</p><p>In his speech, Marcos Jr. underscored the vital role of the project to farmer’s livelihood and food security especially with the looming El Niño.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/7/23/palace-marcos-wants-reset-in-ph-china-relations-after-ayungin-incident-1414">Palace: Marcos wants ‘reset’ in PH-China relations after Ayungin incident</a></div><p>“Sa panahon ngayon, lalo na sa gitna ng tagtuyot o El Niño, hindi na puwedeng umasa lang tayo sa pagdating ng ulan dahil nagbabago pati ang panahon. Dati alam na natin kung kailan darating ‘yung ulan, kailan titigil, kung kailan dadaan ‘yung bagyo,” he said.</p><p>“Dahil nga ‘yung naririnig natin at nababalitaan nating climate change, pabago-bago. Hanggang Disyembre nagbabagyo na ngayon. Kung minsan ‘yung tagtuyot nagsisimula Enero pa. Iyan ay nakakatulong po ‘yan,” the chief executive stated.</p><p>“Makakaasa po kayo na katuwang ninyo ang pamahalaan sa pag-aayos ng mga sistema, at kayong mga magsasaka ang nagbibigay-buhay dito,” he added.</p><p>The P886 million project can store up to 3.013 million cubic meters of rainwater.
