<div><span class="fr-img-caption fr-fic fr-dib" style="width:960px;display:block" width="960"><span class="fr-img-wrap"><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1784793157983thumbnail-F7m3y2hyWVI-1280x720 (8).jpg" style="width:960px" class="fr-fic fr-dib" width="960"/><span class="fr-inner" style="text-align:left">According to BFAR Occidental Mindoro, laboratory examination of the recovered fish showed signs consistent with blast fishing, a destructive and prohibited fishing method under Philippine law. <em>Courtesy: PRO 4B PIO</em></span></span></span></div><p>MANILA — More than one ton of fish believed to have been caught through illegal blast fishing was seized by authorities while seven individuals were arrested for allegedly violating the Philippine Fisheries Code in Sablayan, Occidental Mindoro on Wednesday, July 22.</p><p>The joint anti-illegal fishing operation was carried out at around 6:25 a.m. in Barangay San Nicolas </p><p>Authorities recovered around 900 kilograms of Yellowtail Fusilier or Dalagang Bukid and 105 kilograms of Giant Trevally, with a combined estimated market value of P166,500. </p><p>They also confiscated 23 fish tubs, an unmarked motorized banca worth about P200,000, and a van valued at approximately P250,000, which investigators believe was intended to transport the illegally caught fish.</p><p>According to BFAR Occidental Mindoro, laboratory examination of the recovered fish showed signs consistent with blast fishing, a destructive and prohibited fishing method under Philippine law.</p><p>“Our marine resources are among MIMAROPA’s greatest assets. Protecting them is not only about enforcing the law but also about safeguarding the livelihood of our fisherfolk, ensuring food security, and preserving our environment for future generations,” said Mimaropa police chief Brig.
