The death toll from the massive landslide in Barangay Guisad Surong, Baguio City, rose to eight Monday night as rescuers continued to dig through tons of soil and debris.Four more bodies were recovered from beneath the rubble.Shortly before 8 p.m., rescuers recovered the remains of a victim, earlier before 6 p.m., the bodies of a man and a woman were pulled out one after another.At around 2:52  p.m., rescuers recovered the body of a two-year-old girl.Four bodies had already been recovered Sunday night.Two people remain missing as search and rescue operations continue.Three residents rescued from the landslide area were also injured.Meanwhile, rescuers found a dog alive beneath the rubble, near the spot where the two bodies were recovered shortly before 6 p.m.Rescue workers described the discovery as miracle as the dog was found alive more than 24 hours after the landslide struck. Authorities believe its owner may be among those who died.The victims were reportedly members of different families who lived in three houses buried when a massive portion of the mountainside collapsed.The landslide occurred at around 7 p.m. Sunday, after the ground was weakened by nearly a week of continuous rains brought by the combined effects of Tropical Cyclones Luis, Maymay, and the southwest monsoon or habagat.The collapsed portion of the mountain was estimated to be as high as a 30-story building, according to Mayor Benjamin Magalong.Meanwhile, 14 families, or 69 individuals, have been evacuated due to the threat of another landslide.Rescuers continue to scour the massive debris field, hoping to find the two remaining missing residents alive.
