style="text-align:left">Photo courtesy of Bauan LGU</span></span></span></div><p>BAUAN, Batangas — Bauan Mayor Wendah Dolor appealed to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to address the town’s persistent flooding problems after it experienced its worst flooding over the weekend. </p><p>One of the mayor’s major concerns is the long-delayed construction of the Batangas City–San Pascual–Bauan Diversion Road, particularly the unfinished section at the intersection with the provincial road in Barangay Manghinao 1.</p><p>Dolor said the area quickly floods whenever it rains because the unfinished road has no proper drainage system.</p><p>The flow of water has also washed away rocks and soil onto the roadway, creating hazardous conditions and causing accidents.</p><p>“Ito ay ilang sulat at pagtawag ng pansin sa DPWH kasi ang dami na ho aksidente na nangyayari dito at naaawa kami  na nagpapala ang barangay at DRRMO namin para maitabi yung mga  bumabagsak na mga bato, lupa dito sa kalsada,” Dolor said.</p><p>She urged the DPWH to prioritize the construction of the drainage system.</p><p>“Baka mapansin na tayo ng DPWH na sana mauna ang drainage nito at kung matapos na ang kalsadang ito na magko-cross sa isang barangay na lalabasan ay national road,” she added.</p><div class="twitter-tweet twitter-tweet-rendered" clogged the Manighinao River beneath the bridge in Barangay Poblacion 2.</p><p>With the water unable to flow freely, the river overflowed and caused waist-deep flooding in a nearby subdivision.</p><p>Barangay Aplaya and other coastal barangays were also flooded.</p><p>Barangay officials and the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) immediately carried out clearing operations to remove the garbage and logs blocking the river and help ease the flooding.</p><div><span class="fr-video fr-deletable fr-fvc fr-dvb fr-draggable" contenteditable="false" class="fr-draggable"></iframe></span><br/></div><p>Dolor explained that the floodwaters came from upland municipalities in the third district of the province, carrying garbage, rocks and logs downstream into Bauan.</p><p>“Catchbasin ang Bauan, mababa tapos sentro kaya dito ang buhos…kaya kahit wala ng ulan, bumaha,” the mayor said.</p><p>This was the first time that Bauan experienced such severe flooding.</p><p>Minor landslides were also reported in some mountainous barangays, but the affected roads were quickly cleared and are now passable. </p><div><a
