<p>A police officer died while trying to rescue two Bantay Dagat members who were swept away by a strong river current during a patrol in Cadiz City, Negros Occidental.</p><p>The Philippine National Police (PNP) identified the casualty as PMSg. Fernando Marfa, who was on official duty when the incident happened on August 7.</p><p>According to PNP Public Information Office chief PCol. Allen Rae Co, Marfa was conducting a routine river patrol with two civilian Bantay Dagat members when he saw them being carried away by the strong current.</p><p>“Nakita niya na nasa danger ‘yung kanyang dalawang kasamahan, kaya tinry niyang i-save. Unfortunately nga, while the two were safe or naging ligtas, ay yung ating pulis po ang nasawi,” Co said.</p><p>“Pinapaabot ng Philippine National Police ang buong pusong pakkiramay sa kanyang pamilya.
