<p>The convoy of Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) Chief Minister Abdulraof “Sammy Gambar” Macacua was fired upon at around 4:45 p.m. Saturday in Barangay Bitu, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao del Norte.</p><p>The incident occurred shortly after Macacua attended an assembly in Barangay Gambar, Kabuntalan, where he took his oath as a member of the Bangsamoro Federalist Party (BFP) and assumed the presidency and chairmanship of the party.</p><p>The Chief Minister was unharmed in the incident. No injuries were reported among those aboard the other vehicles.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/4/29/motorsiklong-ginamit-sa-pananambang-sa-timog-ave-narekober-1113"><strong>Riding-in-tandem suspects caught on CCTV before fatal ambush Quezon City</strong></a></div><p>The Bangsamoro Federalist Party (BFP) strongly condemned the incident, describing it as a threat not only to Macacua but also to the peace, the democratic process, and the stability of the Bangsamoro.</p><p>The party noted the timing of the incident, which happened shortly after Macacua assumed a leadership position in the BFP.</p><p>It called on law enforcement authorities to conduct a swift, impartial, and comprehensive investigation and to determine those responsible for the attack, including anyone who may have planned, ordered, financed, or facilitated it.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/regions/2026/3/30/pnp-vows-justice-for-slain-wounded-cops-in-shariff-aguak-ambush-1111"><strong>PNP vows justice for slain, wounded cops in Shariff Aguak ambush</strong></a></div><p>The BFP stressed that violence and intimidation must not be allowed to influence the political direction of the Bangsamoro.</p><p>The party said it remained committed to peaceful and democratic governance and would not be deterred by threats or acts of violence.</p><p>It also urged Bangsamoro communities, regardless of political affiliation, to reject violence and stand together to  protect peace, democracy, and justice in the region.</p><p>Meanwhile, Commission on Elections chief George Garcia asked the Philippine National Police and the Armed Forces of the Philippines to look into the ambush.</p><p>&quot;With the recent development in the BARMM, we are directing the PNP and the AFP to immediately determine the perpetrators and bring them to justice,&quot; said Garcia in a statement.</p><p>&quot;Whether this is election related or not, the maintenance of peace and order in the area is of utmost importance. No stone should be left untouched just to ensure that the trust and confidence of the people will remain. However, respect  for constitutional rights is paramount to ensure the rule of law.&quot;</p><div>  </div><div><br/></div><div>  </div>
