MANILA — The Philippine Coast Guard is set to file cases against eight people arrested in Batangas over the weekend for an alleged illegal fuel transfer operation, its spokesperson said on Monday.Commodore Noemie Cayabyab said over PTV&#x27;s &quot;Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon&quot; that the PCG has conducted an investigation and complaints will be filed before the provincial prosecutor.She said the petroleum products and the vessel used in the operation could also be subject to confiscation.The PCG also issued an enforcement inspection apprehension report which cited possible connivance between the vessel&#x27;s master and ship owner.It also cited the alleged failure to file a safety declaration and to secure PCG clearance before leaving port.<div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/regions/2026/8/16/pcg-arrests-8-aboard-fishing-vessel-over-suspected-oil-pilferage-near-tingloy-island-1140">PCG arrests 8 aboard fishing vessel over suspected oil pilferage near Tingloy Island </a></div>“During sa ating boarding and inspection, wala po silang kaukulang mga rehistradong dokumento,” Cayabyab also said.(During boarding and inspection, they could not present registration documents.)Cayabyab said the PCG has been patrolling in areas where illegal fuel transfer activities have been reported, especially in Batangas.<div> </div><div>GROUNDED TUGBOAT</div>Meanwhile, the tugboat SL Suay 1, which ran aground in Botolan, Zambales, is currently tilted about 30 degrees to its starboard side.Cayabyab said an underwater inspection conducted by the PCG found no oil spill and confirmed that the vessel&#x27;s tanks were sealed.She said salvage operations will begin once the weather clears.Cayabyab added ship owners are generally responsible for the costs of salvage operations.
