50 families in Imus, Cavite evacuated due to flooding

MANILA -- Around 50 families were evacuated to Tinabunan Elementary School after flooding hit parts of Imus, Cavite, on Wednesday.In Medicion II-F, flooding reached two feet as of noon, damaging appliances and other belongings of residents.Resident Maylyn Bautista said many of their appliances and clothes were submerged in floodwater.“Marami pong nilubog na gamit, mga ref, washing machine, halos lahat po. Parami kaming naitapon kahit po damit ng bata kaya halos walang natira sa gamit namin,” Bautista said.She said the flooding has become a recurring problem since July.“Syempre po malungkot. Hindi ko maintindihan kasi syempre pinaghirapan mo ‘yan tapos sa isang iglap lang wala na… mabigyan naman sana ng solusyon na mawala ‘to kasi parang hindi na normal ang buhay namin. Ganito na lang kami palagi kalublob sa baha,” said Bautista.Another resident, Ace Auditor, said he felt restless whenever heavy rain fell. He said the rain stopped at around 4 a.m., but the floodwaters have yet to subside.“Ang mga tao dito ay hindi kampante pag lumalakas ang ulan. Lagi po kaming nag-aalala kung anong pwedeng mangyari sa amin… marami rin kaming gamit namin nasira, mga bagong bili na appliances,” Auditor said.He said the flooding also affects their access to basic necessities, which forced him to use the bathrooms of neighbors who live in areas not affected by floodwaters.In Barangay Pag-Asa Tres, resident Jenny Luang said floodwaters reached up to three meters. She has been staying at the evacuation center for two days.“Pagod, hirap, kasi kada uwi namin maglilinis kami ng bahay. Yung perwisyo po ng baha, ang gusto namin mangyari, yung hindi na po kami nangangamba, matatakot kasi kada baha na lang naghahanap kami ng malilipatan,” Luang said.She said she was also worried about the health risks posed by prolonged exposure to floodwaters.“Hindi maisantabi na magkaroon kami ng sugat, mga alipunga, mga anak namin,” she said.The Department of Social Welfare and Development of Imus, Cavite said doctors regularly visit the evacuation center and provide free medicines to evacuees.At the center, Child Development Workers from the Department of Social Welfare and Development conducted a storytelling activity for children affected by the flooding. Child Development Worker Vivian Sel Rosario said the activity was meant to help children cope with fear and anxiety after their homes were flooded.“Dahil binaha sila, syempre po hindi natin maalis yung takot na nararamdaman nila na lagi na lang bang ganun… at least dito mawawala kahit panandalian lang yung kanilang… takot,” Del Rosario said.<div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/weather-traffic/2026/8/19/list-flooded-roads-in-metro-manila-on-aug-19-wednesday-0931">LIST: Flooded roads in Metro Manila on Aug. 19, Wednesday</a></div>She said social workers also conducted safety seminars for evacuees on Wednesday morning and assured that the evacuation center has sufficient supplies and personal hygiene items for those staying there.Meanwhile, Imus Mayor Alex Advincula said the city government continues to address the flooding. He noted that only about 10% of the city has been affected.“10% lang sa aming side ng Imus ang bumaha pero yung hindi maiwasan ang baha sa tuloy-tuloy na pagbaha. Kasi karatig namin yung Kawit side… ang outfall namin goes towards the side of Kawit side. Nagiging problema lang talaga ngayon yung aming mga creek papuntang Kawit, nasasara dun sa Kawit side kaya nahihirapan kami,” Advincula said.The mayor said the city has started rerouting some canals to improve drainage.“Pero ngayon gumagawa kami ng paraan.
