<div><iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/abPhV5bZ6jA?&amp;wmode=opaque&amp;rel=0" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen="" class="fr-draggable"></iframe> </div>Over 200 families were forced to evacuate while 15 roads—including key portions of the Strong Republic Nautical Highway—were rendered impassable as heavy rains brought by the southwest monsoon, or Habagat, flooded 56 barangays across Oriental Mindoro on Tuesday, August 18.According to the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), a total of 126 families, or 450 individuals, are temporarily staying in designated evacuation centers. Another 114 families, or 401 individuals, sought shelter with relatives as local authorities carried out immediate rescue and relief operations.The flooding hit six municipalities and one city, with Naujan recording the highest number of affected areas at 19 barangays, followed closely by Calapan City with 17.The remaining flooded barangays were reported in:-San Teodoro: 6 barangays-Baco: 6 barangays-Mansalay: 5 barangays-Puerto Galera: 2 barangays-Victoria: 1 barangay<div> </div>A total of 15 roads across the province were declared impassable to light vehicles due to rising floodwaters.Travel to both the northern and southern parts of Oriental Mindoro has been severely disrupted.In southern route: Portions of the Strong Republic Nautical Highway in Barangay Bucayao, Calapan City, and Barangay Pinagsabangan II in Naujan were rendered impassable.Northern Route: Access to Puerto Galera and neighboring areas was cut off as sections of the national highway in Baco and San Teodoro became unpassable.Disaster authorities continue to closely monitor major rivers that have reached critical levels and remain at high risk of overflowing.Authorities are keeping a close watch on several major waterways, including the Alag, Bucayao, Panggalaan, Mag-Asawang Tubig, and Malitbog rivers.
