<p>MANILA — The Philippine National Police has recorded 50 school-related incidents involving children in conflict with the law since June 16.</p><p>The incidents include shootings, stabbings, bomb threats and other threats, according to police data as of August 19.</p><p>Of the 50 incidents, 26 were bomb threats, 12 were shooting threats and two were death threats. Four involved alleged illegal possession of firearms, four were stabbing incidents, two were actual shootings.</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>JUNE: DEADLY SCHOOL SHOOTING, STABBING </strong></div><p>The first shooting happened on June 22 at the San Jose National High School in Tacloban City, where three students were killed and dozens were injured.</p><p>Police later said the attack appeared to have been planned, with the shooter allegedly targeting a specific personl.<a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/regions/2026/6/24/tacloban-school-shooters-had-target-police-1256"><strong></strong></a></p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/regions/2026/6/24/tacloban-school-shooters-had-target-police-1256"><strong>Tacloban school shooters had target — police</strong></a></div><p>Police have filed criminal complaints against the 15-year-old shooter.</p><p>The police officer who owned the gun used in the attack was relieved from her post and could face administrative proceedings.</p><p>The shooting prompted questions on firearm security, school safety and the responsibility of parents and guardians.</p><p>The DILG said it was looking into possible liability of parents or guardians when firearms under their control are accessed by minors. </p><p>Days before the shooting, on June 16, seven students were injured in a stabbing incident in General Trias, Cavite.</p><p>The Grade 8 student involved was later turned over to the custody of the local social welfare office, according to the PNP monitoring.</p><div><a students. </p><div><br/></div><div><strong>JULY: THREATS AND MORE STABBING INCIDENTS </strong></div><p>By July, the PNP list had grown to include multiple shooting, bomb and death threats reported in schools across the country. </p><p>Many of these remained under investigation.</p><p>On July 1, two students were injured after allegedly being stabbed by a schoolmate in Zamboanga. </p><p>The incident was also linked to concerns over bullying.</p><div><a inside the school.</p><p>Police said the incident stemmed from a dispute over P10.</p><div><a PNP&#x27;s 50-case list happened on August 18 at the Ateneo de Zamboanga University.</p><p>Two people died in the incident.</p><p>One of the two firearms used in the shooting was issued by the Bureau of Customs to the student&#x27;s father, who is a Customs police officer.</p><p>The other firearm was reportedly personally owned but licensed.</p><div><a separately been looking into the possible impact of gaming and social media platforms on young people following the earlier school shooting in Tacloban. </p><div><br/></div><div><strong>AUTHORITIES MOVE TO TIGHTEN SCHOOL SECURITY </strong></div><p>The string of incidents has prompted several government agencies to step up measures to prevent violence in schools.</p><p>After the Tacloban shooting, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ordered concerned agencies to determine the root causes of violence in schools. </p><p>The Department of Education (DepEd) also ordered a review of school security measures and considered mandatory bag inspections following the shooting.</p><p>The DepEd and PNP later moved to conduct active-shooter drills in schools to prepare students, teachers and personnel on what to do during an armed attack.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/7/8/deped-to-launch-active-shooting-drills-in-schools-1226?utm_source=chatgpt.com"><strong>DepEd to launch ‘active shooting drills’ to equip students and teachers with response know-how</strong></a></div><p>The PNP also eyed the establishment of anti-bullying help desks in schools, while authorities called for stronger psychosocial support for students.</p><p>The rise in threats following the Tacloban shooting was described by DepEd as a possible &quot;copycat phenomenon.&quot; </p><p>On the firearms front, the DILG has pushed for stricter gun laws and greater accountability for gun owners whose firearms end up being used in crimes.</p><p>Following the latest shooting in Zamboanga, the agency again called for tighter regulation of linked to school violence, while the government previously acted against the game GoreBox after the Tacloban shooting.</p><p>The Senate, meanwhile, has looked into the role of gaming platforms in youth safety, including Roblox, amid concerns over children&#x27;s exposure to potentially harmful online content.</p>
