Twelve elementary school teachers were rescued by authorities after becoming stranded while attempting to cross a raging river in Bongabong, Oriental Mindoro, on Thursday.According to PBGen. Christopher Dela Cruz, regional director of the MIMAROPA Police Regional Office, a rescue operation was launched after authorities received a report from a barangay official that several teachers from Naswak Elementary School in Sitio Naswak, Barangay Lisap, had been stranded for hours.The teachers had no other way to cross the river except through a bamboo bridge, which was damaged several days earlier by the onslaught of the southwest monsoon, or habagat.They initially attempted to cross the damaged bridge, but the river suddenly swelled, making it too dangerous to proceed as rushing water began to engulf the structure.Among those who took part in the joint rescue operation were personnel from the 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company (PMFC), the Oriental Mindoro Police Provincial Office, the 10th Special Action Battalion of the Special Action Force, the Bureau of Fire Protection–Bongabong, and the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO).
