<div><span class="fr-img-caption fr-fic fr-dib" style="width:960px;display:block" width="960"><span class="fr-img-wrap"><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1787464824017HQUKnqpbcAAWni8 (1).jpg" style="width:960px" class="fr-fic fr-dib" width="960"/><span class="fr-inner" spellcheck="false" style="text-align:left">The Department of Public Works and Highways conducts a clearing operation along the Abra de Ilog–Puerto Galera Road in Occidental Mindoro. <em>Photo courtesy of Abra de Ilog Public Information Office via Dennis Datu, ABS-CBN News</em></span></span></span>OCCIDENTAL MINDORO — The Abra de Ilog–Puerto Galera Road is partially passable, with authorities now able to reach Barangay Udalo, which has been isolated for days after numerous landslides triggered by the southwest monsoon or habagat.</div><p>Geoffrey Panganiban, head of the Abra de Ilog disaster response office, said clearing operations are underway with the assistance of the Department of Public Works and Highways but the clearing teams have so far reached only the center of the barangay from the port area side.</p><p>Around eight major landslides were cleared on Saturday, paving the way for the faster delivery of relief goods to the 1,286 residents of Barangay Udalo.</p><p>However, the road remains impassable when coming from the town of Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro, where around five landslides continue to block the road in Sitio Lucotan.</p><p>Meanwhile, Barangay Sta. Maria remains isolated due to massive landslides and damaged roads.</p><p>The local government will deliver relief goods to Sta. Maria residents by boat on Mondayt, using the sea route to reach the isolated community.</p><p>Abra de Ilog is expected to declare a state of calamity on Monday with initial damage to agriculture and infrastructure already estimated at P55 million.</p><p>Sablayan is the first town in  Occidental Mindoro that declared a state of calamity after recording an estimated P1.4 billion in damages.</p><p>Mario Mulingbayan, head of the Occidental Mindoro disaster response office, said a farm-to-market road in Barangay Alacaak, Sta. Cruz that collapsed after being swept away by the Pagbahan River, is also being repaired.</p><p>The restoration has allowed the previously isolated seven sitios inhabited by indigenous Mangyan communities to reconnect.</p><p>Damage caused by tropical cyclones Luis and Maymay, as well as the southwest monsoon, has already exceeded P300 million across Occidental Mindoro and could still rise as authorities await damage reports from other municipalities.</p><p>Mulingbayan said the municipalities in District 1 were among the hardest hit, including Sablayan, Sta.
