Helen Tan has announced the planned opening of a new Polytechnic University of the Philippines campus in Sariaya, Quezon, which will become the university’s fifth campus in the province, while efforts are also underway to establish a new Philippine Science High School campus in CALABARZON.</p><p>The PUP campus will be established in Sariaya, with online postgraduate courses set to begin while preparations for the campus building are underway. Other undergraduate programs are expected to be offered starting the next academic year.</p><p>“Magpe-prepare pa lang kami ng building for them pero may ready na kami for few classes. So ang suggestion ni President [Manuel ]Muhi is just selected lang kami na post-grad muna so that next year may maganda kami na study which of the program should we start,” Tan said.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/7/11/marcos-jr-vetoes-bill-declaring-pup-as-national-polytechnic-university-1847">Marcos Jr. vetoes bill declaring PUP as National Polytechnic University</a></div><div><br/></div><div style="text-align:center"><iframe src="https://www.facebook.com/plugins/video.php?height=314&amp;href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Freel%2F2140652770208228%2F&amp;show_text=false&amp;width=560&amp;t=0" width="560" height="314" style="border:none;overflow:hidden" scrolling="no" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe></div><p>Meanwhile, the application for the proposed Pisay campus is already underway, with Tan expressing optimism that it will be approved since all requirements have reportedly been completed.</p><p>The proposed campus is on a seven-hectare property in Lopez, Quezon and is also meant to serve students from nearby provinces in the Bicol Region.</p><p>This would spare students from having to travel to Batangas City or Quezon City to attend Pisay.</p><p>“Although we have Quezon Science High School, but of course magkaiba rin naman. Parehong science but mas bihasa ito. So magkakaroon ng opportunity ang mga estudyante natin galing sa Bondoc Peninsula sa 4th District kasi Lopez is university hub and accessible also to Camarines Norte and Camarines Sur,” Tan explained.</p><p>The Lopez campus would become the second Philippine Science High School campus in CALABARZON, after the existing campus in Batangas City.</p><p>Tan also highlighted the provincial government’s efforts to expand access to free education through the Quezon Provincial Scholarship Code.</p><p>Under the Priority Courses Scholarship and Return of Service Program in partnership with Southern Luzon State University, 34 scholars are currently enrolled in undergraduate programs, while another 33 are pursuing Doctor of Medicine degrees.</p><p>The return-of-service component is designed to help address the shortage of professionals—including doctors, physical and occupational therapists, and speech-language pathologists—particularly in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas across Quezon.</p><p>The province is also set to graduate the first batch of scholars under the “One Poor Family, One College Graduate” program.</p><p>The program provides members of poor families with an opportunity to complete a college education, with the goal of helping their households break the cycle of poverty.</p><p>The program covers scholars’ expenses, including tuition, allowances and other miscellaneous costs, and currently has 103 beneficiaries.</p><p>Meanwhile, 15 Indigenous youth are also receiving full scholarships under a separate provincial scholarship program.</p><p>The provincial government is likewise supporting government employees and public school teachers who wish to pursue master’s degrees and other postgraduate studies.</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>RELATED VIDEO:</strong></div><div style="text-align:center"><iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/NXKL-aqSmRY?si=Mg614t5s-FX_gYgK" title="YouTube video player" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe><br/></div>
