Handout/Comelec</div>MANILA — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) would be &quot;contented&quot; if the voter turnout for the Dasmariñas, Cavite special poll reaches 50%, its chairman George Garcia said on Saturday.The Comelec is holding a special election to fill the position of Cavite 4th District representative, which has been left vacant after Kiko Barzaga was expelled as a House member due to &quot;disorderly&quot; behavior.&quot;Nung nakaraan, ang sabi natin 60% to 65%,&quot; Garcia said when asked about the expected voter turnout. &quot;Ngayon, kuntento na tayo kung kahit maka-50% man lang ang bumoto.&quot;&quot;Sana naman dito mas mataas naman sapagkat napaka-importante rin nung posisyon na kanila pong ipi-fill up-an,&quot; he added, noting that the recent special election in Antipolo only had almost 31% voter turnout while the Paranaque plebiscite had 17.4%.<div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/regions/2026/8/29/comelec-considers-extending-voting-hours-in-dasmari-as-city-amid-heavy-rains-0859">READ: Comelec considers extending voting hours in Dasmariñas City special polls amid heavy rains</a></div>But even if the election would have a low voter turnout, Garcia said it would not matter as the poll rule is about plurality.&quot;Ibig sabihin, hindi po kinakailangan majority of the votes of the registered voters ay nakaboto. Ang sabi ng batas din, ang ipoproklama ng Comelec ay kung sino lamang ang may pinakamataas na boto na nakuha sa lahat ng kandidato,&quot; the chairman explained.There are five candidates for the position while there are around 447,000 registered voters in Dasmariñas.The poll body is open to extending the voting hours amid the rains brought by the southwest monsoon. The voting hours began at 5 a.m. for senior citizens, persons with disability, and pregnant voters. Regular voting hours started at 7 a.m. and will end at 3 p.m.&quot;Dito sa Dasmariñas kasi wala namang binabaha na lugar. Maaaring malakas ang buhos ng ulan pero mabilis din na bumababa ang tubig,&quot; Garcia said.The Comelec said it is hoping to proclaim the winning candidate before 5 a.m. on Sunday.
