CAVITE — Thousands of families were evacuated in Cavite as floods affected several barangays and major highways due to the enhanced habagat on Sunday, August 9.Due to the heavy and continuous rainfall overnight, rescue teams from the Cavite Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office immediately conducted evacuation operations early Sunday morning, together with the Philippine Coast Guard and the Bureau of Fire Protection.Local governments also declared preemptive evacuation for residents living in flood-prone areas. Adding to the challenge was the high tide, which slowed the flow of rainwater through waterways.<div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/weather-traffic/2026/8/9/enhanced-monsoon-rains-due-to-typhoon-dolphin-trigger-flooding-in-ph-1856">READ: Enhanced monsoon rains due to typhoon Dolphin trigger flooding in PH</a></div>In Bacoor, the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) recorded 1,045 families evacuated as of 12 noon Sunday.Meanwhile, according to the Imus City Disaster Risk Reduction Office, 15 barangays were affected by flooding due to the habagat. Although floodwaters have started to recede on Sunday, five barangays are still experiencing chest- to waist-deep flooding.These include Medicion II-F, Medicion Dos D, Pag-asa Dos, Pag-asa Tres, and Toclong Dos 2A. More than 350 families have been evacuated to temporary shelters across the city.One of the evacuation centers is Tinabunan Elementary School, where more than 80 families from Barangay Pag-asa III are temporarily staying.Among them is 58-year-old resident Susan Nuilan, who had to bring her 88-year-old father and her son with a disability to the evacuation center by herself.While barangay officials and the local government continue to provide assistance to residents affected by the flooding, immediate assistance is not enough for Susan.&quot;Lahat po kami na residente ng Pag-asa 3 ay humingi ng tulong sa ating mahal na Pangulo na tulungan naman po lahat kami na kami po ay makaiwas sa lagi ng kalamidad na ganito. Ito na taon-taon po nandito kami sa evacuation center na lagi nalang kami ganito taon-taon,&quot; she said. She is also calling for a long-term solution to prevent residents from having to repeatedly evacuate whenever heavy rains hit the area.Susan said this is the first time this year that they have experienced flooding this high.
