<p>ZAMBALES — Residents of Barangay Sta. Fe in San Marcelino town in Zambales province have been cut off for over a month after a bridge connecting them to the town proper collapsed during the onslaught of southwest monsoon and tropical storms.</p><p>Siguro Cabalic, a resident of Sta. Fe, told ABS-CBN News that it is more challenging to reach the town proper since they would have to traverse the river.</p><p>“Yung lahat ng tanim namin, nagugunaw na…paano naman kami mabubuhay….pati bahay nahuhukay eh pano na? Wala na. Ay matagal na. Bale isang buwan pa ang napuputol yung tulay…oo mahirap,” Cabalic said.</p><p>“Mahirap po dahil nawalan kami ng tulay — hindi po kami makatawid dahil sa pinsala ng habagat. Hermogenes Ebdane, a temporary bridge for the affected residents is now under construction.</p><p>“May inilalagay na pedestrian bridge, pero meron kaming long-term na ituloy na yung kalsada mula Barangay Umaya, San Narciso hanggang dito para makumpleto na itong circumferential road,” Ebdane told ABS-CBN News.</p><p>On Tuesday, September 1, Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Rex Gatchalian announced that the agency will also be giving out P10,000 cash assistance per affected family.</p><p>“Tomorrow, magsisimula na rin yung cash assistance don sa community kasi nga since na-isolate sila - yung livelihood nila medyo naantala na eh so ang assurance natin, tuloy-tuloy na food packs at the same time cash assistance,” Gatchalian said.</p><p>Gatchalian also explained that the agency&#x27;s family food packs are not overpriced, contrary to a social media post alleging that each food pack costs about P1,503.</p><p>“Public document naman lahat ng aming bid documents, lahat ng produkto namin sa DSWD ay dumadaan sa masusing competitive bid.
