Handout/Philippine Coast Guard</div>OCCIDENTAL MINDORO &mdash; One person died while eight others were rescued after a boat sank while en route from Pinagpala Port on Semirara Island in Caluya, Antique, to Caminawit Port in San Jose, Occidental Mindoro.According to Philippine Coast Guard spokesperson Commodore Noemi Cayabyab, the MB San Agustin IV left Semirara Island at around 1:30 p.m. on Saturday and was expected to arrive at Caminawit Port at around 5 p.m.When the boat failed to arrive at the expected time, its owner tried to contact the vessel&#39;s captain but received no response.The owner then sought assistance from the Coast Guard Sub-Station in San Jose, which immediately launched a search-and-rescue operation.At around 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, Coast Guard personnel found the boat overturned near Liwagao Island in Caluya, Antique. The crew members were found clinging to the overturned vessel.However, a female passenger, who was also the wife of one of the crew members, lost her life in the incident.Cayabyab said that based on the captain&#39;s initial account, the boat was reportedly hit by strong winds and large waves, causing it to overturn.The rescued survivors and the body of the fatality &nbsp;have since been brought to Semirara Island.Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident.
