MANILA —  Vietnam’s VinFast says it aims to install around 15,000 charging ports across the Philippines in partnership with global charging station developer V-Green, to strengthen the country&#x27;s emerging electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem.The carmaker said the initiative forms part of its broader plan to build a dependable and visible infrastructure network that supports the growing adoption of EVs. While the company’s electric taxis introduce the technology on the road, its long-term focus is on creating the systems that make EV ownership practical and sustainable, the company said.VinFast said it is also expanding its network of dealerships and authorized service centers to provide reliable maintenance and after-sales support. These efforts address the main barriers to EV adoption — including range anxiety, repair uncertainty, and access to financing.The company said its infrastructure rollout complements the government’s Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act (EVIDA), which promotes cleaner transport and lower emissions. The Department of Energy has said that as of April this year, the country had only over 900 EV charging stations, and most of them were concentrated in the National Capital Region.The DOE said it aims to deploy 7,300 EV charging stations all over the country by 2028, based on the Comprehensive Roadmap for the Electric Vehicle Industry (CREVI).President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has said that he wants half of cars on the road to be electric by 2040. The government has since rolled out a raft of incentives meant to increase EV adoption, such as tariff cuts for electric vehicles as well as exemptions from number coding traffic rules.
