MANILA — Globe on Thursday said it blocked more than 3,000 links and websites to child pornography in 2024.

In a statement, the telco giant said it blocked 3,096 domains containing child sexual abuse and exploitation, higher than the 3,047 domains restricted in 2023.

Globe said it has invested over $2.7 million in advanced content filtering systems, which allow it to detect and block illegal content.

In 2024, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. urged the government to curb the sexual abuse of children in the Philippines.

In 2022, nearly 1 in every 100 children in the Philippines “were trafficked to produce child sexual exploitation material for profit,” according to data from the International Justice Mission (IJM) and the University of Nottingham Rights Lab.

“It is an appalling statistic. We cannot allow this to continue,” Marcos Jr. said.

In the first half of 2024, there were 22,421 children who experienced abuse, neglect and other types of violence in the Philippines, said Interior Secretary Benjamin Abalos Jr.

Of the 94 operations against online sexual abuse or exploitation of children (OSAEC) conducted from January to September 2024, the Philippine National Police were able to rescue 169 victims, and arrested 51 suspects, he said.
