For action adventure content producers, especially travel vloggers, hikers, cyclists and motorcyclists, the X4 Air provides a more affordable entry point into making 360 videos.</p><p>Beginners may also get addicted to the Insta360 Studio video editing app, which remains one of the best out there for ease of use. If you’ve never tried shooting and editing 360 videos before, you might be surprised at just how fun it can be.</p><div><br/></div><div><span class="fr-video fr-deletable fr-fvc fr-dvb fr-draggable" contenteditable="false" draggable="true"><iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/EjyG6EmzLXQ?&amp;wmode=opaque&amp;rel=0" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen="" class="fr-draggable"></iframe></span><br/></div><p>As I had just tested the X5 a few months earlier when I was invited to try the X4 Air, I wondered if the experience would seem like a big downgrade. But I was pleasantly surprised that it was almost every bit as good as the X5.</p><p>The X4 Air features slightly smaller dual 1.18-inch sensors versus the X5’s dual 1.28-inch sensors. But they are still a big improvement over the X4’s 0.5-inch sensors. The X4 Air is very capable of shooting high-quality 8K videos (4K on each lens) at 30 frames per second even in less-than-ideal conditions. </p><div><br/></div><div><span class="fr-img-caption fr-fic fr-dib" style="width:960px;display:block" width="960"><span class="fr-img-wrap"><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1768405794104insta360 x4 air moto mount.jpg" style="width:960px;display:block;height:auto" class="fr-fic fr-dib" width="960"/><span class="fr-inner" style="text-align:left">The Insta360 X4 Air mounted on a motorcycle. <em>Arthur Fuentes, ABS-CBN News</em></span></span></span></div><p>After using the X4 Air to shoot cycling and motorcycling videos, I can vouch that the quality of the footage between the X4 Air and the X5 is barely discernible. If you’re watching these videos on your phone or even your tablet, you can hardly tell the difference. But on larger 4K monitors or UHD smart TVs, the difference may become noticeable. </p><p>Like the X5, the X4 Air also features replaceable lenses. The lens replacement kit is sold separately. If you&#x27;re motorcycling, biking, or hiking in a faraway place and accidentally damage a lens, you can easily replace it and just keep on shooting.</p><p>Compared to the previous X4, the Air seems to have gone down in terms of battery capacity. While the X4 has 2,290mAh, the X4 Air has just a 2,010 mAh. But if you compare the 8K @ 30fps runtimes, the Air actually lasts longer. </p><p>While the X4 lasts 75 minutes at 8K at 30fps, the X4 Air bumps this up to 88 minutes. In any case, you won’t be editing 88 full minutes of 360 footage if you know what you’re doing.</p><div><br/></div><div><span class="fr-img-caption fr-fic fr-dib" style="width:960px;display:block" width="960"><span class="fr-img-wrap"><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1768405880922insta360 x4 air bike mount.jpg" style="width:960px" class="fr-fic fr-dib" width="960"/><span class="fr-inner" style="text-align:left">The Insta360 X4 Air mounted on a bicycle. <em>Arthur Fuentes, ABS-CBN News</em></span></span></span></div><p>The X4 Air really can do almost everything that the flagship X5 can, except for the PureVideo mode, which enhances the quality of low-light footage. If you’re going to do a lot of nighttime videography, then you should absolutely get the X5. But if you’re just doing the occasional low-light shot, then you should save some money and get the X4 Air instead. </p><p>The X4 Air’s other advantage besides price is its relatively smaller size and lighter weight compared to the X5, which can feel chunky, especially when you’re holding it with the invisible selfie stick for long stretches of time. </p><div><br/></div><div><span class="fr-video fr-deletable fr-fvc fr-dvb fr-draggable" contenteditable="false" draggable="true"><iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/sLv4_5FA9rs?&amp;wmode=opaque&amp;rel=0" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen="" class="fr-draggable"></iframe></span><br/></div><p>However, as someone who has used earlier Insta360 cameras before, I feel like this new camera could have been even lighter. I’m still using the X2, which is still an awesome 360 camera more than three years after I bought it, and that thing is just really light at just 149 grams. </p><p>But all in all, the X4 Air is a great action camera. If you want to dive into the world of 360-degree footage, this is a very good entry point. </p>
