MANILA — The Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) on Thursday the number of reported SMS scams dropped significantly in 2025 compared to the previous year.In a press conference at the CICC office in Quezon City, Usec. Renato Paraiso said SMS scams dropped sharply from 6.1 million cases in 2024 to just 322,634 in 2025. Scam calls also dropped from 610,688 to 477,302.CICC attributed this &quot;benchmark performance&quot; to the expanded use of the 1326 National Anti-Scam Hotline and a more tech-savvy public that has learned to &quot;ignore and report&quot; suspicious links.“Kailangan ho na mayroong awareness na may pagsusumbungan ang ating mga kababayan. At pag nagsumbong ho sila, may ginagawa ang inyong pamahalaan, particulartly ang DICT at CICC sa mga sumbong n’yo kaya nga may 24-hour feedback mechanism tayo,” Paraiso added.He also encouraged the public to continue reporting online scams to the CICC&#x27;S hotline number 1326. Among the red flags the public should be mindful of when receiving text messages is the clickable link, he said.“Ang pinaka-red flag diyan ‘pag may link. ‘Pag may link yan sabihin na ntin sa mga kababayan natin automatic scam na yan - kasi ipinagbawal na ni National Telecommunication Commission (NTC) na magkaroon ng link yung mga text messages natin - so ‘pag may links yan, banned na kagad yan,” Paraiso said.Among the top 4 threats last year were consumer fraud, online fraud, online harassment and identity theft.
