Arthur Fuentes, ABS-CBN News</div>MANILA — Samsung’s Galaxy Buds4 Pro is one of the best-sounding wireless earbuds right now, offering excellent customization for most types of music. These buds also have very good active noise cancelling, which is definitely among the top tier of ANC earbuds when it comes to turning down the volume on an increasingly noisy world. But first, a disclaimer. I am by no means an audiophile. I don’t obsess over sound in the same way that some people buy million-peso turntables, collect vinyl, or participate in digital versus analog holy wars. I’m just an average guy whose music listening has been confined to streaming services for the last few years. But I do notice the difference between setting Spotify streaming quality from normal to “lossless”, and I actually prefer using Apple Music when I want to listen to jazz or classical, because of the quality. And now, I find myself preferring the Buds4 Pro to another high-end brand, simply because I notice how better the sound here is. Maybe not by much, but enough to be felt. I like how much fuller the bass is and how the treble is a bit more refined on the Buds4 Pro. Some reviewers have called the default sound settings on these new buds as “consumer friendly” and I kinda understand why. When I listen to metal, rock or hip hop, the bass becomes more noticeable and enjoyable. When listening to jazz or classical, where the mid tones become more important, you can adjust the signal mix using the equalizer in the Galaxy Wear app. It’s also one of the better-looking earbuds right now. The flat brushed metal stems look premium, and the transparent charging case looks modern. I also really like their fit; the medium-sized eartips just feel more comfortable than on other earbuds I’ve tried. The Galaxy Buds4 pro includes only small, medium and large eartips, while the AirPods Pro 3 gives an extra 2 sizes from extra small to extra large. The eartips themselves are made of comfortable silicone, not like the silicone and foam found in the Buds4 pro’s biggest competitor. When it comes to noise cancellation, though, the Buds4 Pro seem to be a step behind its biggest competitor. Not that they’re bad. They actually do a very good job of turning down the volume on the rest of the world. They even have a nifty trick of letting certain sounds, like emergency alarms or sirens through. However, compared to the competition, their very good ANC is still not par with the excellent ANC of that other top-tier earbuds brand.I tried both while in a noisy newsroom, and while riding an airplane, and while the Buds4 Pro worked great, the other earbud was noticeably quieter. In terms of mic quality, though, I like the Buds4 Pro better. The mics do a better job of picking up your voice and clearing out the noise. They sometimes lose that natural quality that comes from hearing a bit of ambient noise, but if you want your voice to come out as clear as possible, it’s a trade-off that’s worth it, I think. The Buds4 Pro are rated for up to 6 hours of battery life with ANC turned on. This is at par with many other earbuds, but falls short of the 8 hours of battery endurance of another brand. This is something Samsung needs to work on. When paired with another Samsung phone, especially the Galaxy S26 Ultra, the Buds unlock a lot of features like 24-bit Ultra High-Quality audio, AI-powered head gestures to manage calls (nod to take a call, shake sideways to reject), 360 Audio with direct multichannel, and instant pairing via the ecosystem. I could only imagine what it must be like to use these earbuds when watching movies on a Samsung TV. However, this is also one of the stranger choices Samsung made. I think it would have been better if they had made all of these features available to other Android and Windows devices. <div>VERDICT</div>These are very good wireless earbuds with excellent sound quality and great active noise cancellation. For Android users, these buds are a great choice, especially if your phone is one of the newer high-end Samsung models. The Galaxy Buds4 Pro retail for P14,990.
