Arthur Fuentes, ABS-CBN News</div><div>MANILA — As a new school year unfolds, many parents may still be wondering what kind of device they should give their young kids, while staying within a tight budget. </div>The Honor X8b tablet may just be the gadget parents should get so their kids can do basic tasks, stay in touch with friends, and enjoy content. A welcome feature is the Android tablet’s ‘Digital Wellbeing and Parental Controls’ settings, which let parents add content restrictions as well as manage screen time.This 11-inch tablet, with a 90Hz refresh rate, looks quite well-built for a device in its price range. Its aluminum body feels solid and looks sleek. The 1920 x 1200 (16:10) aspect ratio is ideal for both working on documents and watching videos. Netflix and YouTube work pretty well on this tablet. Its screen looks quite bright, hitting 500 nits, although the quality changes with the viewing angles.But this is clearly not a tablet for doing serious work. The Snapdragon 680 processor (6nm) paired with 4GB of RAM (8GB with “Turbo”) is OK for some light work on Google Docs, GMail and social media browsing. The 128 GB of storage is also more than enough for the schoolwork of young kids.It has decent sound courtesy of 4 speakers, and its humongous 10,100 mAh battery will also ensure that kids will not need to plug this in as often to recharge.However, you will notice some lag when opening the tablet and when opening some apps. If you’re thinking of doing photo or video editing, this tablet is probably not for you. If you want to do drawing and painting, the X8b is not going to cut it. The P10,999 price is not too harsh on the wallet. I just wish Honor could have also included a protective case with the tablet. But it was easy enough to get a cheap P250 cover case online. To make it truly useful for kids, you could also throw in a P350 wireless keyboard.Parents will also welcome the Honor Kids suite, which lets them manage specific profiles and track activities with clear info charts, meant to keep kids safe and their online experiences clean.The X8b&#x27;s Android OS allows parents to set limits on the screen time of kids, manage apps to ensure that these are age-appropriate, and block inappropriate or malicious content.  All in all, this is a very good tablet for kids, and if you just want a bigger screen to watch streaming videos and social media.
