<p>Chinese robot &quot;Tiangong&quot; broke its own record in a 400-metre dash on Sunday (August 23), clocking in at 38.15 seconds at the World Humanoid Robot Games in Beijing.</p><p>The new record comes one day after Tiangong broke the 400m human record on Saturday (August 22) when it finished at 39.7 seconds, beating South African Wayde van Niekerk&#x27;s world record of 43.03 seconds.</p><div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/technology/2026/8/23/humanoids-break-records-at-beijing-robot-games-2130">READ: Humanoids break records at Beijing Robot Games</a></div><p>China has promoted humanoid robots as a strategic emerging industry, with policymakers and companies betting that advances in AI and hardware will accelerate their use in manufacturing, logistics and consumer applications.</p><p>Investor enthusiasm for the sector was on display earlier this week when shares in Unitree, China&#x27;s best-known humanoid robot maker, jumped more than five fold in its Shanghai trading debut on Wednesday, giving the company a market value of about $50 billion.</p><div><strong>(Production: Nasaybah Hussain, Writing: Qiaoyi Li, Eduardo Baptista, Ellen Zhang and Kevin Krolicki)</strong></div>
