<p>MANILA (UPDATED) - Potential super typhoon Uwan (international name Fung-wong) may reach peak intensity Sunday afternoon, just offshore the Bicol region, the US Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) said Thursday.</p><p>In its <a href="https://www.metoc.navy.mil/jtwc/products/wp3225web.txt">latest bulletin</a> on the tropical cyclone brewing east of the Philippines, the US JTWC said Uwan&#x27;s maximum sustained winds may reach 212 kilometers per hour, with 259kph gusts.</p><p>&quot;The environment ahead of Tropical Storm Fung-wong is favorable for further intensification and allows for the possibility of rapid intensification,&quot; the US Navy and Air Force weather agency said, adding that the tropical cyclone will continue to strengthen &quot;all the way through landfall over northeast Luzon&quot;. </p><p>&quot;A (landfall) strike intensity around 100kt (around 185 kph) is entirely feasible at this point,&quot; JTWC said. &quot;Recent track guidance focuses the strike point north of Casiguran (Aurora) but well south of the northeast tip of Luzon, with an exit point into the West Philippine Sea somewhere near Vigan.&quot;</p><p>Philippine state weather bureau PAGASA, in its 11 p.m. Thursday bulletin on the tropical cyclone, said Fung-wong continued to intensify while moving northwestward.</p><p>It was packing maximum sustained winds of 85 kph near the center, gusts of up to 105 kph. </p><p>It is forecast to enter the Philippine area of Responsibility Friday night or early Saturday morning. It will be named Uwan once it enters the PAR.</p><p>PAGASA said Uwan may make landfall on Monday over northern or central Luzon.</p><p>&quot;In terms of intensity, this (tropical cyclone) is forecast to rapidly intensify and may reach typhoon category tomorrow and super typhoon category on Saturday. It may also make landfall at or near its peak lifetime intensity,&quot; PAGASA added.</p><p>PAGASA said tropical cyclone wind signal No. 5 may be possibly raised in several areas that will be hit by Uwan, even as it warned possible dangerous storm surges.</p><p>&quot;Potentially life-threatening stormy conditions may occur over Northern Luzon and portions of Central Luzon on Monday (10 November) and Tuesday (11 November),&quot; the weather bureau said. &quot;There is also a potential for high storm surge risk and related coastal flooding, especially in Northern Luzon and the east coast of Central Luzon.&quot;</p><div><br/></div><div><span class="fr-video fr-deletable fr-fvc fr-dvb fr-draggable" contenteditable="false" draggable="true"><iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/54KZnWOvQ_M??si=ZJVdGNMnhGqIv1yH&amp;wmode=opaque&amp;rel=0" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen="" class="fr-draggable"></iframe></span><br/></div>
