Virac, Catanduanes storm surge

Courtesy: Renalyn Silva</span></span></span></div><div><br/></div><p>MANILA<strong> (UPDATED) </strong>— Uwan, which intensified into a <a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/weather-traffic/2025/11/9/-uwan-nears-super-typhoon-strength-as-it-approaches-catanduanes-0646">super typhoon </a>Sunday morning has Uwan spawned knee-deep floods in some areas of Virac in Catanduanes, where Wind Signal No. 5 is currently hoisted.</p><p>A storm surge was also reported on the coastal Virac Boulevard. Seawater covered the road and entered some of the houses along the road. </p><p>Meanwhile, flood water flowed with mud, sand and gravel from the Mayon Volcano to Purok 8 in Barangay Masarawag in Guinobatan, Albay following the nightlong rain.</p><p>In Barangay Dapdap in Legazpi City, a tree fell on a parked taxicle due to the strong gust of wind. </p><p>The tree was immediately removed by the owner. One resident manually removed the tree branches.</p><p>Because of the fallen tree, only small vehicles can pass through the area.</p><p>Floodwater has also started rising in some areas in Barangay Orosite. </p><p>At Legazpi City Boulevard, the sea remains calm despite the strong wind and rain but there was zero visibility on the city&#x27;s streets because of heavy rain since 4 a.m.</p><p>A few motorists were still seen travelling despite the torrential rain.</p><p>In Tabaco City, power has been out since Saturday night. </p><p>Huge waves meanwhile hammer the coast of Pantao, Libon, still in Albay.</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>EVACUATION IN QUEZON</strong></div><p>Also on Sunday, the Philippine Coast Guard evacuated 17 people from the island town of Jomalig, Quezon.</p><p>The mandatory evacuation was of five families in  Sitio Moros in Barangay Talisoy.</p><p>The 17 were brought to the Jomalig Central Elementary School, which serves as an evacuation center for the town.</p><p>Jomalig is one of five municipalities in the Polillo Group of Islands, which have been placed under Signal No. 5.  <strong>— with Rey Boton, Jonathan Magistrado, Vince Villar, Aireen Perol, Lyza Aquino, Ronilo Dagos, ABS-CBN News</strong></p><div><br/></div><div><strong>RELATED VIDEO:</strong></div><div style="text-align:center"><iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/_FTP0TcwtcI?si=19MibEqtjIEqP4Vy" title="YouTube video player" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe><br/></div>
