Handout/PAGASA</div>MANILA -- The low pressure area (LPA) east of the country entered the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) at 2 p.m. Wednesday, according to weather bureau PAGASA. It was located 1,105 km east of southeastern Luzon.It may develop into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours and will be assigned the local name Wilma.The weather disturbance is seen to intensify up to tropical storm strength while traversing the Philippine Sea.<div><a class="fr-strong fr-green" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/weather-traffic/2025/12/2/lpa-east-of-luzon-now-has-high-potential-of-cyclone-formation-pagasa-1051">READ: LPA east of Luzon now has &#x27;high potential&#x27; of cyclone formation -- PAGASA</a></div>However, the strong surge of the northeast monsoon or Amihan will inhibit further intensification and steer it southwestward.Wilma may make landfall over the Eastern Visayas-Bicol area on Saturday or Sunday, then cross the Southern Luzon-Visayas region through Monday or Tuesday.From Thursday, Wilma&#x27;s trough may start affecting Bicol and Eastern Visayas. Wind signals may also be raised by then.The storm will bring heavy to intense rains, especially along its immediate path. The enhanced shear line rains will also affect the eastern sections of Northern and Central Luzon.Widespread and serious flooding and landslides may be possible in many areas.However, the uncertainty in the intensity and track forecasts remains high so the public is advised to continue monitoring updates on this potential tropical cyclone.
