Mark Demayo, ABS-CBN News</span></span></span></div><p>MANILA — The heavy monsoon downpours on Monday dumped almost a month&#x27;s worth of rainfall in Cavite City and more than two weeks of rain in Quezon City, data from the weather bureau showed.</p><p>In 24 hours, the PAGASA Sangley Point station in Cavite observed 382.1 millimeters of rain, or equivalent to 26 days worth of precipitation for the month of July.</p><p>In Quezon City, the Science Garden station recorded 285.8 mm,  comparable to 60 percent of Ondoy&#x27;s rainfall in September 2009.</p><p>At the NAIA, Pasay City station, 228 mm rainfall was dumped also on Monday, equivalent to six weeks&#x27; of rain.</p><p>All three stations&#x27; precipitation records on Monday were significantly higher than the amount recorded Friday and Saturday last week. </p><p>The tropical cyclone Crising-enhanced southwest monsoon or habagat dumped 242.4, 240.8, and 122 mm of rain in two days in Sangley Point, Science Garden, NAIA, respectively.</p><p>Monday&#x27;s torrential downpours caused <a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/weather-traffic/2025/7/21/list-flooded-roads-in-metro-manila-on-july-22-tuesday-0029">widespread flooding in Metro Manila</a> and <a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/regions/2025/7/22/bulacan-residents-told-leave-homes-early-during-floods-avoid-late-night-evacuation-1010">nearby areas including Bulacan</a>, with some areas experiencing above head floodwaters depth. </p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/7/22/metro-manila-drainage-system-very-old-no-longer-adequate-in-preventing-floods-dpwh-0922">Metro Manila drainage system ‘very old’, no longer ‘adequate’ in preventing floods: DPWH</a></div><p>Flooding in many thoroughfares also caused heavy traffic, with some roads rendered impassable due to waist-level water levels. </p><div><iframe width="853" height="480" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/KeaOfNtEHg4" title="Rumaragasang baha, pag-apaw ng ilog sa QC dala ng pag-ulan | ABS-CBN News" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe></div><p>Forced evacuations were implemented in Marikina City after the third alarm was raised as the <a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/7/21/alert-level-in-marikina-river-downgraded-0727">Marikina River</a> water level rose above 18 meters late Monday. La Mesa and Wawa dams also overflowed in the afternoon, which prompted flooding alert in downstream areas. </p><p>The Department of the Interior and Local Government suspended classes at all levels and government work for Tuesday in Metro Manila and eleven provinces in Central and Southern Luzon after Monday&#x27;s deluge.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/weather-traffic/2025/7/21/-walangpasok-class-suspensions-on-tuesday-july-22-1626">#WalangPasok: Class, gov’t office work suspensions on Tuesday, July 22</a></div><div><iframe width="853" height="480" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/rQGkj43k6YE" title="Kotse tumirik sa España nang subukang lumusong sa baha | ABS-CBN News" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe></div><div><br/></div><div><strong>RAIN GOES ON</strong></div><div><br/></div><p>PAGASA projects continuous heavy monsoon downpours through Thursday in Metro Manila, Ilocos Region, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, northern Mimaropa, Bicol Region, and Western Visayas.</p><p>This, as the weather bureau continued to monitor <a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/weather-traffic/2025/7/21/twin-lpas-inside-par-may-develop-into-tropical-depressions-0633">two low pressure areas</a> inside the Philippine area of responsibility that could both develop into tropical cyclones and enhance the southwest monsoon.</p><p>Last week, tropical cyclone Crising and the enhanced habagat also caused widespread flooding in many parts of Luzon and Visayas and some areas in Mindanao.</p><p>The cities of Baguio and Olongapo recorded almost two weeks of rain in two days, July 19 and 20, at 353.2 and 328.2 mm, respectively. Abucay town in Bataan meanwhile observed 314.4 mm of rain in the same period.</p><p>Recently, researchers from the Ateneo de Manila University, PAGASA, and Japan found that during the habagat season, non-landfalling tropical cyclones that enhance the southwest monsoon are likely to bring up to twice as much rainfall (around 33 percent) as those that make landfall (15 percent).</p><p>However, the habagat itself without tropical cyclone influence is still responsible for more than 50 percent of precipitation during the wet season.</p><p>Climate experts have warned that rain-bearing weather systems including habagat and tropical cyclones will only get wetter due to the climate change.
