<div><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1758363466907NANDO.jpg" style="width:960px" class="fr-fic fr-dib"/>PAGASA forecast track of Typhoon Nando</div>MANILA - Typhoon Nando has intensified further while moving northwestward over the Philippine Sea on Saturday. In anticipation of the typhoon&#x27;s approach to Northern Luzon, signal no. 1 is now raised over 14 areas:BatanesCagayan including Babuyan IslandIsabela, QuirinoNortheastern Nueva VizcayaApayaoKalingaAbraMountain ProvinceIfugaoIlocos NorteNorthern Ilocos SurNorthern AuroraCentral AuroraNorthern Catanduanes Eastern Catanduanes<div> </div>More areas will be placed under wind signals as the typhoon moves closer to Northern Luzon.Nando is expected to reach super typhoon strength early Monday.Wind signal no. 5 will be the highest wind warning to be raised during its passage.At 4 p.m. Saturday, Typhoon Nando was located 770 km east of Echague, Isabela.It now packs winds of 140 kph with gustiness up to 170 kph and is moving northwestward at 10 kph.The typhoon is enhancing the southwest monsoon, bringing scattered rains over Southern Luzon, Visayas, and western Mindanao. Monsoon rains will be heavier and persist through Wednesday.Nando’s rain bands, meanwhile, will dump up to torrential rains in Northern Luzon from early Monday.The potential super typhoon may make landfall over or pass very close to Babuyan Islands or Batanes area between Monday afternoon and evening. Violent winds, torrential rains, and storm surge above 3 meters may lead to life-threatening conditions along Nando’s immediate path.Widespread and serious flooding are also expected across many parts of the country that will be affected by southwest monsoon.Nando will be out of the Philippine area of responsibility by Tuesday morning, September 23.
