MANILA — Tropical depression Opong may make landfall over the Bicol Region on Friday, September 26, the weather bureau said in a bulletin late Tuesday.At 10 p.m., the storm was located 980 kilometers east of northeastern Mindanao. It packs winds of 55 kilometers per hour, with gustiness up to 70 kph. It is moving west southwestward at 15 kph.Opong will intensify up to severe tropical storm strength while moving west northwestward over the Philippine Sea.After coming ashore over Bicol, the storm will cross Southern Luzon until Saturday morning. It may pass south of Metro Manila between late Friday to early Saturday.Along with the southwest monsoon, the disturbance will bring heavy rains across Southern Luzon and Visayas from Thursday evening.Up to intense rainfall is likely over southern Bicol and Samar.Widespread and serious flooding and landslides are expected.Opong may be out of the Philippine area of responsibility by late Saturday or early Sunday.The public is advised to continuously monitor updates on the storm as the forecast will still change.
