Metro Manila prepares for habagat, typhoon Inday

MANILA — Several local government units (LGUs) in Metro Manila have prepared for the possible effects of the southwest monsoon and typhoon Inday. Quezon City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (QC-DRRMO) operations manager Carl Oliver Luces said their Quick Response Team (QRT) is now on yellow alert  “Sa kasalakuyan, naka-alerto kami hanggang dilaw na alerto o pangalawang level na alerto ng QC. Lahat po ngayon ay nakatutok sa weather na mararamdaman natin hanggang sa susunod na araw, hanggang sa Lunes. Nakalagay ang Metro Manila sa yellow warning na kung saan up to 50 to 100 millimeters of rains ang ma-experience for the next 24-hours,” said Luces.He said they identified 27 barangays in 6 districts where residents may be recommended for possible evacuation. So far, the QC-LGU has a total of 99 evacuation areas.“Naka-prepare ang QC, nakafocus sa maaring mangyaring paghahaba sa mga susunod na araw. Kinabukasan ay mag-aaleto kami sa susunod na level na orange - ibig sabihin, mag-a-activate kami ng incident management team at ng aming response clusters,” Luces said.In Malabon City, the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office is also on yellow alert after experiencing torrential rains Friday afternoon.Malabon City Mayor Jeannie Sandoval said the LGU has prepositioned relief goods for those who will be evacuated.“Ready na po kami, lahat ng mga evacuation centers naman po ay open for preemptive evacuation 24/7 naman yung aming command center para sa mga reports at para sa monitoring namin. May mga prepositioned goods na po kami,” Sandoval told ABS-CBN News.Search and rescue teams are also on standby for possible deployment. “Sa lahat ng mga high risks areas, may mga search and rescue vehicles naman po,” said Sandoval.She advised those in low lying and flood prone areas to prepare for possible evacuation.”Mag-iingat po tayo, kundi hindi naman po kailangang lumabas- magstay lang po tayo sa bahay at dun sa mga lugar na delikado, high risk, ready naman po tayo sa preemptive evacuation,” according to Sandoval.
