MANILA — A low pressure area that formed from a cloud cluster east of the country Monday evening may develop into a tropical cyclone that could cross Northern Luzon by the weekend, according to PAGASA.As of 8 p.m., the LPA was located 1,740 kilometers east of southeastern Luzon, outside the Philippine area of responsibility.It may enter the PAR between Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning.The LPA may develop into a tropical cyclone inside the PAR on Wednesday or Thursday and will be assigned the local name Kiyapo.Kiyapo is the Tagalog name of water cabbage or water lettuce, from which Manila’s Quiapo district also got its name.PAGASA said Kiyapo may cross Northern Luzon over the weekend.Once the system develops into a tropical cyclone, it may enhance the southwest monsoon or Habagat, initially bringing increased rainfall over Palawan, Visayas, and Mindanao.Wetter conditions may spread across many parts of the country toward the weekend.PAGASA advised the public to continue monitoring updates on the system as the forecast may still change.
