<p>MANILA — Several areas in western Luzon recorded weeks’ worth of rainfall in just five days as the southwest monsoon or Habagat continued to bring persistent rains, PAGASA data showed.</p><p>From 8 a.m. of August 5, Wednesday, to 8 a.m. of August 10, Monday, the PAGASA station in Baguio City registered 1,143.2 millimeters of rain – equivalent to 36 days’ worth of August rainfall in the city.</p><p>In nearby La Trinidad, Benguet, the automatic weather station (AWS) at Benguet State University logged more than 1,220 millimeters of rain, while the La Trinidad AWS posted 822.5 millimeters.</p><p>Four people were killed in separate landslide incidents in La Trinidad and Baguio City.</p><p>In La Union, where several towns experienced flooding, the Bacnotan AWS observed almost 640 millimeters of rain.</p><div><span class="fr-video fr-deletable fr-fvc fr-dvb fr-draggable" contenteditable="false" draggable="true"><iframe src="https://www.facebook.com/plugins/video.php?height=314&amp;href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Freel%2F2826431024400728%2F&amp;show_text=false&amp;width=560&amp;t=0" width="560" height="314" style="border:none;overflow:hidden" scrolling="no" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen="" class="fr-draggable"></iframe></span>Almost three weeks’ worth of August rainfall was also recorded in Dagupan City with nearly 400 millimeters, and Sinait, Ilocos Sur with 407 millimeters.</div><p>Weather stations in Zambales also recorded around three weeks’ of rainfall for August, with more than 640 millimeters in Iba and 525 millimeters in Subic. </p><p>In Abucay, Bataan, the five-day rainfall total reached almost 550 millimeters.</p><div><span class="fr-video fr-deletable fr-fvc fr-dvb fr-draggable" contenteditable="false" draggable="true"><iframe src="https://www.facebook.com/plugins/video.php?height=314&amp;href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Freel%2F2483460105462931%2F&amp;show_text=false&amp;width=560&amp;t=0" width="560" height="314" style="border:none;overflow:hidden" scrolling="no" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen="" class="fr-draggable"></iframe></span>In Metro Manila, nearly 400 mm of rain or almost two months’ worth of rain in August was recorded at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Pasay City.</div><p>The Science Garden station in Quezon City logged 428 millimeters, or more than three weeks of rain in August in the city. </p><p>The volume is almost comparable to Ondoy’s 455 millimeters recorded in 24 hours in September 2009.</p><p>In Calabarzon, Cavite City recorded 447.9 millimeters of rain while Tanay, Rizal logged 411.8 mm. Both totals represent nearly a month’s precipitation in their respective location for August.</p><div><span class="fr-video fr-deletable fr-fvc fr-dvb fr-draggable" contenteditable="false" draggable="true"><iframe src="https://www.facebook.com/plugins/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2FabscbnNEWS%2Fposts%2Fpfbid038N4XdfzdEayAHaJcEWAKKsmNRg5kLeFiWGcfADc2fNC7G7W2fhEXwFHVegRn6g3Ul&amp;show_text=true&amp;width=500" width="500" height="250" style="border:none;overflow:hidden" scrolling="no" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen="" class="fr-draggable"></iframe></span><br/></div><div><strong>DAMS </strong></div><p>The persistent heavy rains also led to significant increases in the water levels of some of the major dams in Luzon over a 24-hour period.</p><p>San Roque Dam in Pangasinan recorded the biggest increase, rising by more than 15 meters to  254.77 meters.</p><p>San Roque is the lowest of the three cascading dams along the Agno River, together with Ambuklao and Binga dams.</p><p>The sharp increase was attributed to both the heavy rainfall in the area as well as the opening of the gates of Ambuklao and Binga on Sunday.</p><p>Angat Dam, which supplies about 90 percent of Metro Manila’s water needs, stood at 170.47 meters at 8 a.m. Monday, recording an increase of 8.66 meters from the previous day. </p><p>This was the reservoir’s biggest 24-hour increase so far this year. </p><p>On Sunday, Angat Dam’s water level rose past its critical low level of 160 meters, reaching 161.81-meter elevation.</p><p>Meanwhile, Magat Dam recorded a 3.61-meter increase while Pantabangan Dam rose by 0.76 meter.</p><p>According to PAGASA, one gate of Ipo Dam in Bulacan remains open, with an opening of 0.3 meter.</p><p>Habagat is expected to persist through the weekend, with monsoon rains forecast to gradually ease but will continue to affect Benguet, parts of Ilocos Region, Zambales, Bataan, and Occidental Mindoro.</p><p>Metro Manila may see more periods of sunshine beginning around the middle of the week.</p><p>For more weather updates, visit the <a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/calamity-hub">ABS-CBN Calamity Hub.</a></p><div><span class="fr-video fr-deletable fr-fvc fr-dvb fr-draggable" contenteditable="false" draggable="true"><iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/jGOshrpNz-Y?&amp;wmode=opaque&amp;rel=0" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen="" class="fr-draggable"></iframe></span><span class="fr-video fr-deletable fr-fvc fr-dvb fr-draggable" contenteditable="false" draggable="true"><iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/SI_iIg9ZdQ4?&amp;wmode=opaque&amp;rel=0" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen="" class="fr-draggable"></iframe></span><br/></div><div><br style="caret-color:rgb(0, 0, 0);color:rgb(0, 0, 0)"/></div>
