Handout/PAGASA</div>MANILA — Typhoon Obet (international name: Saudel) is no longer forecast to reach super typhoon strength and may exit the Philippine area of responsibility in 12 hours, according to PAGASA.The storm entered the PAR at 1:20 p.m. on Monday.At 4 p.m., it was located 1,350 kilometers east northeast of Extreme Northern Luzon.It has maximum sustained winds of 165 kilometers per hour with gustiness up to 205 kph and is moving west northwestward at 30 kph.No wind signals will be raised as Obet will remain far from the Philippine landmass and not directly affect the country&#x27;s weather.It will follow a wide reversed-U track while moving toward mainland China.<div><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1787564560206784915610_1802380477794471_2110983158945924022_n.jpg" style="width:960px" class="fr-fic fr-dib" width="960" alt="The track and intensity forecast of typhoon Obet, as of 5:00 p.m. on August 24, 2026. Handout/PAGASA</div>Obet will enhance the southwest monsoon or Habagat going to the weekend, bringing increased rainfall over the western section of Luzon, including Metro Manila. Moderate to heavy rains or about 50 to 100 millimeters of rain may affect Zambales beginning Tuesday afternoon, extending to Bataan and Occidental Mindoro from Wednesday afternoon, and eventually spreading to the rest of western Luzon, including Metro Manila through the weekend.Flooding and landslides are expected in these areas.Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Atsani was located 1,765 kilometers east of Central Luzon with maximum winds of 65 kph with gusts up to 80 kph and is moving east northeastward at 35 kph at 3 p.m.The storm will follow an arc-like path near the eastern PAR boundary as it interacts with the much stronger Typhoon Obet before eventually merging with its broader circulation.On the other hand, Tropical Depression Gaenari weakened after it made landfall over mainland China.It was located 505 kilometers north northwest of Batanes Monday afternoon. It will weaken further and eventually dissipate. Habagat is currently affecting Luzon, with scattered rains over Ilocos Region, Cordillera, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Metro Manila, and parts of CALABARZON.The rest of the country will continue to experience warm and humid conditions, with possible isolated rain showers or thunderstorms in the afternoon or evening.
