Iran's National Security Council confirmed on Monday it had launched a missile attack on a major US military base in Qatar in retaliation for recent American strikes on its nuclear facilities.

The Iranian council stated their response did not “pose any threat" to Qatar, emphasizing the attack's proportional nature.

“In response to the US aggressive and insolent action against Iran's nuclear sites and facilities, a few hours ago, the powerful armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran struck the US air base in Al-Udeid, Qatar," the council declared, adding that the number of missiles used "was the same as the number of bombs that the US had used in attacking Iran's nuclear facilities."

They reiterated, "This action does not pose any threat to our friendly and brotherly country, Qatar."

Despite the attack, US officials reported no casualties at the base as of early June 24, 2025.

FILIPINO COMMUNITY ON ALERT

Following the incident, the Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines in the State of Qatar issued an immediate advisory to all Filipino nationals to "sheiter in place until further notice."

"All Filipinos are urged to continue monitoring the news and heed the advisories issued by local authorities and the Embassy.”

John Walter Francisco, an OFW, shared his experience and the community's response.

When asked about their situation, he stated, "Okay naman po kaming pamilya dito. Kalmado na po sa ngayon sa ere pero lahat alert pa rin po. Secured naman po kami na ginagawa ng ministry of Qatar ang lahat to keep us safe."

Regarding the local response, Francisco explained, "Yung embassy ng Pilipinas dito sa Qatar nag-announce to shelter in place. Naka empake na po kaming mahahalagang gamit kung sakali man lalo na may 1-yr old kaming baby na nandito kasama naming mag-asawa."

He confirmed that no evacuation advisories had been issued yet.

"Wala po. Nakamonitor kami sa mga official websites ng qatar governments kung sakali,” said Francisco.

REGIONAL REACTIONS

The attack drew strong condemnation from neighboring Saudi Arabia, which called Iran's actions "unjustifiable" and offered "all its capabilities" to support Doha.

Riyadh stated it "condemns and denounces in the strongest terms the aggression launched by Iran against the sisterly State of Qatar... This is unacceptable and unjustifiable under any circumstances. The Kingdom affirms its solidarity and full support for... Qatar and offers all its capabilities to support the sisterly State of Qatar in any measures it takes,” Saudi Arabia’s foreign ministry said in a statement.

For its part, Qatar's Ministry of Interior reassured its population that the security situation remained "stable" following the missile strike.
