Hundreds of protesters gathered in Portland, Maine, on Tuesday to demand an end to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations in the state, a day after an <a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/world/2026/7/14/us-immigration-agents-involved-in-another-fatal-shooting-0931">ICE agent fatally shot a Colombian man </a>during a traffic stop in nearby Biddeford.Demonstrators marched through downtown Portland carrying anti-ICE signs and banners, chanting &quot;No more ICE&quot; and &quot;No hate, no fear, immigrants are welcome here.&quot; Several speakers called for accountability and justice following the death of Johan Sebastian Duran, a 26-year-old Colombian national who immigration advocates say was authorized to work in the United States.The protest came as ICE ordered officers nationwide to temporarily suspend most vehicle stops following two fatal shootings during immigration enforcement operations in Maine and Texas within the span of a week.Demonstrator Andrew Cooke, a teacher, said he wanted ICE removed from Maine and ultimately abolished, arguing the agency had &quot;lost the trust of the people.&quot; Other protesters directed criticism at Republican Senator Susan Collins, with veteran Cylissa Mowatt saying she was disappointed Collins had sided with President Donald Trump &quot;over and over again&quot; and calling for elected officials who would &quot;fight for what&#x27;s right.&quot;The Maine attorney general&#x27;s office is investigating Monday&#x27;s shooting in Biddeford alongside local, state and federal authorities.
